Welcome to our OGUK Awards 2020, where we celebrate the stand-out achievements of our extraordinary industry.

In a challenging year for all sectors, companies and people, we have demonstrated the North Sea grit that we are renowned for, continuing to safely provide energy to millions of people throughout the pandemic while progressing solutions to such challenging issues as climate change. COVID-19 has been incredibly challenging at a personal, operational and economic level. So it is right that as we draw the year to an end, we take opportunity to thank and celebrate the talented people and companies that OGUK is so proud to champion.. While we are still on a long path towards recovery, many things that happened this year did in fact give us reasons to be hopeful: People showed each other more kindness and looked out for each other; they clapped for carers, and together called for an equal, fairer world; companies set challenging net zero targets and critical workers throughout our industry supported the nation during a global pandemic. As we all know, our society faces many challenges and our sector has a critical role to safely provide the energy and products we all need while supporting the UK in delivering its net zero ambition. It’s why we continue to work with governments to ensure the conditions are there for companies to remain sustainable and to continue to attract investment to the exciting lower carbon future we are working to realise. All of this is can only be delivered with the support of our world-class supply chain and it is vital that we ensure that the competitiveness of their businesses is sustained too. Every company will have colleagues they wish to thank for helping navigate the pandemic, and I would like to pay special thanks to OGUK’s HSE team, led by Trevor Stapleton, and to the excellent work of our Pandemic Steering Group in bringing industry together to resolve the many challenges posed by COVID-19. While we hope to meet again in person soon, there may also be lessons we want to hold on to from these challenging times. Not least the increased connectivity that this virtual format can give us in opening these events to even more people – so I hope you are watching our Awards with your family, friends and colleagues, albeit virtually and in your respective bubbles! With this in mind, we are also very pleased this year to introduce an Audience Award which has been voted for by you over the past couple of weeks. On behalf of everyone at OGUK I would like to offer our congratulations to all of our finalists. Your impressive achievements act as stand-out examples of what our resilient and transforming industry is capable of. My sincere thanks also goes to our panel of expert judges who so willingly lent their time and considerable knowledge to the judging process, and to our sponsors for this evening. Your support allows us to continue to shine a light on the outstanding successes of our industry, giving them the recognition they so richly deserve. Finally, a special thank you to our principal sponsor, Shell U.K. Limited, for their ongoing support, and of course to the OGUK events team for delivering this virtual ceremony. I hope you all enjoy this celebration all that is remarkable about our ground-breaking industry that we are proud to be a part of.
