OGUK Awards Programme 2020

This year’s finalists are….

ChampionX

Petrofac

Total E&P UK Ltd

ChampionX’s Excelceor is a polymer flood technology which can maximise enhanced oil recovery from the UK Continental Shelf and support the transition to a lower carbon future. Working closely with BP, ChampionX has overcome one of the biggest industry challenges – the degradation of the polymer by shear, which often causes polymer chains to break. As the only shear- protected polymer on the market, Excelceor represents a change in offshore polymer flooding technology. Its efficiency not only improves co₂ emissions per barrel, but also reduces the time and volumes required to achieve the same end result.

Petrofac’s digital journey is now driving a real change in productivity and performance. Connected Worker and Petrolytics, two of the strategic initiatives identified for implementation, have since met major milestones. Combining the use of Digital Twin technology, mobile wearable technologies, and propriety software BuildME, Petrofac digitalised all forms of maintenance and inspection activity.

Total E&P UK Ltd have set up a Digital Asset Flagship, dedicated to delivering a transformation at scale. Their substantial investment and commitment has delivered positive outcomes in less than a year. Its achievements include $10m annual value creation through the use of interactive tools to improve drilling, production optimisation and planning and logistics through the creation of digital products. Taking place in an incredibly short timeframe, agile two-week sprints also helped create 300 days tool time thanks to 100 mobility devices improving watchkeeping, inspection and safety critical maintenance routines. This has been critical to keeping the lights on and projects delivering during the COVID-19 restrictions.
