Environment Report 2014

From 2011 to 2013, 744 tonnes of chemicals were accidentally released from 602 incidents. The majority (60 per cent) of the volume of accidental chemical releases over that period stemmed from 17 releases greater than ten tonnes. There is a higher incidence (167) of mid-sized releases (0.1 to 1 tonne) which accounts for 10 per cent of the total volume released. Over 50 per cent of the number of spills (345) were smaller releases (0 to 0.1 tonne) which contributed less than one per cent to the total volume of accidental chemical releases from 2011 to 2013.
