Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants Genesis is a multi-disciplined energy consultancy. Established in 1988, it has been involved in decommissioning and decommissioning-related studies for the past 20 years. Genesis supports its clients at all stages of the asset life-cycle, with decommissioning currently representing around 10% of its business. With offices around the world, Genesis’ client base is made up of regulators, major oil companies, national oil companies, small independents and contractors. Genesis supports its clients at all stages of a decommissioning project, from cost and feasibility assessments, through the compliance process and into the execute phase. Genesis’ engineering teams support the full life-cycle of an oil and gas asset, including during the late-life of a field, when planning for decommissioning comes to the fore. It is at this stage that the options for decommissioning are developed particularly the transition of an operating facility through cessation of production and into a decommissioning project. Genesis’ multi-disciplined teams provide support through all aspects of the Comparative Assessment process which is used to objectively determine the most appropriate decommissioning option. Along with detailed technical and cost studies, Genesis personnel also carry out environmental impact assessments, technical safety, risk and safety case studies. Much of this work is focussed on developing a compliant Decommissioning Programme on behalf of clients that can be issued for public consultation and then go on to be approved by the regulatory authority. Decommissioning projects call on a range of disciplines that exist within the organisation. Genesis has a dedicated team of decommissioning specialists, but also provides internal and external training specific to decommissioning, to transfer existing skills and bring engineering, environmental and safety professionals into decommissioning projects as required. Decommissioning is a fundamental part of Genesis’ business. From its global Centre of Excellence in the UK, it is actively expanding into other regions such as Brazil, Gulf of Mexico and Asia-Pacific, exporting the knowledge and experience of the UK-based teams.
